Mexico - San Cristobal del las Casas 1
Day 136 - Fri 24 Sep 2004 - San Cristobal de las Casas
There was one stop overnight at Tuxtla Gutierrez before reaching San Cristobal de las Casas at about 8am. We jumped in a taxi, the driver took us to a hotel of his choosing, we had a look at it but weren't too impressed so we found another one for only 100MXP a night called Posada Santiago (not great but cheap).
We then decided to have some breakfast before doing some sightseeing. The town was shrouded in mist and it was much colder than Oaxaca, this is mainly because San Cristobal is much higher at 2200m altitude. We decided to go to the Na Bolom museum and research centre which is devoted to studying and protecting the indigenous Lancandon tribes and their rainforest home.
We had a look around the museum, it was not too impressive and quite small but gave you some idea of the lives of the people and some of the history of the founders of the institute. Afterwards we wandered around town and grabbed some lunch at a place near the Zocalo before spending some time on the internet and heading back to the hotel for a siesta. Dinner was at Paris-Mexico where I had a very nice pasta dish.
